Your patient journey

Your journey with us

Friendly consultation

Our patient-centred approach means your consultations are always comprehensive and friendly. We’ll always aim to get you a diagnosis as soon as possible, using the latest imaging techniques (high-resolution ultrasound and MRI) and state-of-the-art endoscopy equipment.

Initial assessments

You’ll have a detailed clinical assessment of your symptoms, including an examination, high-resolution ultrasound, MRI scans of the pelvis and abdomen, and possibly a diagnostic laparoscopy - the gold-standard diagnostic procedure.

Depending on the results, we may carry out further investigations on other organs that could be affected by the disease.

If you have concerns around fertility, we offer a separate, full assessment of ovarian hormonal function, tubal patency and ovarian reserve alongside other investigations.

Gold-standard diagnosis

During an endometriosis diagnosis, we’ll carry out a detailed clinical assessment of your symptoms. This may include high-resolution ultrasound and MRI scans of your pelvis and abdomen, a gynaecological examination and a diagnostic laparoscopy. This last procedure is the diagnostic gold-standard, and involves inserting an ultra-high-definition endoscopic camera into the pelvis through a small cut in the umbilicus under general anaesthetic.

Depending on the severity of your endometriosis, we may carry out further investigations focusing on the bladder, bowel or other organs affected by the disease. If fertility is required, we can carry out a full assessment of ovarian hormonal function, tubal patency and ovarian reserve, alongside other investigations.

Personalised treatment plan

We’ll give you a personalised treatment plan tailored to your unique needs. From hormone therapy to surgery, from pain management to concerns around fertility, we’ll discuss all the options with you and, together, establish a plan that’s right for you.

And your treatment doesn’t stop after surgery. We offer continuous care and support to all our patients every step of the way, tailored to your specific symptoms and needs.

Medical treatment

Depending on your circumstances, you may be offered hormone therapy, options for pain management or surgery. Your preferences and wellbeing are of paramount importance to us in the decision-making process, and you’ll be able to talk through your options with your consultant before any decision is made.

Surgical treatment

With state-of-the-art equipment, including the daVinci XI robotic system, our expert team of world-renowned surgeons can perform keyhole surgery for the treatment of deep endometriosis, while keeping complications to an absolute minimum.

This means minimally invasive surgery with the most precise instruments available, ensuring a high level of accuracy when working around sensitive areas.

In cases of most severe endometriosis, we work as a multidisciplinary team, including gynaecologists, urologists, colorectal surgeons, hepatobiliary and thoracic surgeons to ensure the best patient outcomes.

We practice nerve-sparing laparoscopic surgical techniques and work to the principle of "economical radicality" in the excision of endometriosis. That means we aim is to remove all the disease in one operation, and avoid multiple surgical procedures.

Ongoing support after surgery

We know the impact endometriosis can have on a patient’s quality of life – depression and chronic tiredness are all common associated conditions. That’s why we offer open access to support from clinical psychologists, pain specialists and nutritionists, as well as specialist endometriosis and pain management nurses.
